The meeting brought together representatives and experts from the European Union, partner countries, including Kuwait, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, the Regional EU CBRN CoE Secretariat for the GCC countries, UNICRI and ISTC. The meeting provided an important platform to discuss future project activities, identify priority needs of the GCC countries, and agree on the overall direction for project implementation.
The planned activities will focus on strengthening medical preparedness and operational response capacities across key areas, including acute radiation medical interventions, hospital emergency response teams, on-scene command for CBRN incidents, psychological impact management, biological threat preparedness, and regional approaches to the stockpiling of medical countermeasures.
Project 116 is funded by the European Union and implemented in close partnership with the GCC partner countries, Regional EU CBRN CoE Secretariat for the GCC Countries, UNICRI and ISTC. The project builds on the achievements of EU CBRN CoE Project 82, “Capacity Building for Medical Preparedness and Response to CBRN Incidents in the GCC”, further underlining the continued importance and high level of attention given to medical preparedness and response to CBRN incidents in the GCC region.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of regional coordination and shared operational approaches. In this context, participants discussed the important role of the GCC National Emergency Operations Centres, the Regional Gulf Centre for Disease Control Emergency Operations Centre in Riyadh, and the Kuwait Regional Emergency Management Centre.
Participants reaffirmed their strong commitment to the successful launch of Project 116 and agreed on the project roadmap for implementation.
